The wait could finally be over as it looks like Marvel may have found their new Spider-Man! Today’s episode of Clevver News Feed is brought to you by Pitch Perfect 2, in theaters May 15th! Ever since it was announced that Spider-Man would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the big question on everybody’s mind has been who will take over the role from Andrew Garfield? After an exhausted search that included some of today’s hottest young stars in contention, it looks like Hugo and Ender’s Game star Asa Butterfield has landed the coveted role as the new “Peter Parker”. First reported by Latino Review, Asa is currently in negotiations for the role which would potentially have him make his debut in next year’s Captain America: Civil War followed by a standalone Spider-Man movie on July 28th, 2017. While multiple sources confirm that Asa is in negotiations for the role, they also point out that the deal is not final and other actors are still in contention, including The Impossible’s Tom Holland. Marvel president Kevin Feige previously revealed they were looking for a younger actor to play Spider-Man as they were interested in focusing on the character’s high school years, something the first two outings only touched on briefly. A recent rumor suggested the plan was to release four films with each film taking place in a different year of high school. As for how he’ll fit into the larger MCU, Feige hinted that Peter Parker has already been running around the streets of New York in his Spider-Man suit, we just haven’t seen it yet. He also previously revealed that a new Spider-Man suit will be introduced that will be very different from the versions we’ve previously seen on-screen, but will remain “classic Spidey”. It has been suggested that Tony Stark himself could potentially have some connection to the new suit. In addition to Civil War and the standalone Spider-Man film, Asa is expected to appear in the two part Avengers: Infinity War set for May 2018 and 2019. Spider-Man played an important role in the comic version of the “Civil War” storyline, though it is unclear how close to the comics the film will follow or how large a role Asa will have in the film. So, who’s excited for Marvel’s version of Spider-Man and do you think Asa Butterfield is a good choice for the role?
