USS Alabama Can't Fly My Drone? Here's What To Do
Please remember guys flying UAS is very fun but we also want to remember to respect the rules and regulations that are set down for us to follow. Below I have attempted to simplify the directions for you and if you're not willing to go through all of the paperwork with the memorial site to get your bird in the air on the base I have also supplied you with a quick flight guide so that you know where you can fly to get some basic footage of the ship.
Make sure to call the memorial site one week in advance at least to try to set up a scheduled flight time with them and make sure they are not having any events that would not clear you for flight you will need to also fill out some paperwork that will need to be turned in to them.
If you guys download Air Map app to your Android device or iPhone and you open the app and click on the area you are currently at it will bring up all the ATC contact numbers for intersecting airports with your current position so you can individually call each one to get clearance.
If you are decide to take the second option of flying off the memorial site off the edge of the highway you will need to only contact the one ATC Tower specified in the video just make sure not to fly past the middle of the bridge to your right during your flight or you will enter into the memorial Zone.
Have your drone registration number ready current Compass bearing to the airport and exact GPS coordinates longitude and latitude. Make sure to put a lot of emphasis on the fact that you will not be flying over a hundred feet and you also agree not to get too close to the memorial site.
