X Men Gambit Movie Gets Release Date

We’ve known for some time that Channing Tatum would be taking over the role of Gambit in the X-Men Universe and now we have an official release date for his first solo outing. Tatum took to Twitter to announce the news tweeting, “How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?” Shortly after that, 20th Century Fox officially announced the date for the film that is currently being called simply, Gambit. No director has been set yet, but the screenplay comes from RoboCop writer Joshua Zetumer from a story by original Gambit co-creator Chris Claremont. Gambit will be the 3rd X-Men character to get his own film following two Wolverine movies starring Hugh Jackman and Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, which is set to arrive in theaters on February 12th, 2016. A third Wolverine movie is set to hit theaters on March 3rd, 2017. No word yet on if we’ll be seeing Tatum appear as Gambit in next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse or if he’ll make his debut in the standalone film. Gambit is currently set to face off against Warner Bros’ Live By Night directed and starring Ben Affleck and Universal’s Monster High. In addition to dating Gambit, Fox also announced new dates for some of its other big films including Assassin’s Creed, Planet of the Apes and The Fantastic Four sequel. The third Planet of the Apes movie will be pushed almost a year from July 29th, 2016 to July 14th, 2017 while Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender will now arrive on December 21st, 2016, one week after the first Star Wars spin-off movie is set to arrive in theaters. As for The Fantastic Four 2, it will move up just slightly to June 2nd, 2017 from its former July 14th, 2017 spot. The studio also announced The Greatest Showman on Earth starring Hugh Jackman as legendary showman P.T. Barnum will release on Christmas Day next year.
