'Iron Man 3' Won't Be "Serious Movie"

By now we've all seen the Iron Man 3 trailer. Tony Stark seems to be in bad place, Mandarin is ready to kick major super hero ass, Pepper Potts is caught in a few near death experiences, and Tony's Malibu mansion gets completely demolished. It's dark and eerie, no funny one-liners or cocky assertiveness we normally see from Tony Stark. For those of us who thought the trailer signified a major tonal shift for the series to a more dark, serious movie, we were wrong.
Marvel's Phase Two is ready to begin with the release of Iron Man 3 and the teaser trailer did what any good trailer does, get us psyched for the movie! Though the trailer was very Christopher Nolan-esque Marvel's head honcho Kevin Feige spoke to The West Australian to clear up the idea that 'Iron Man 3' is moving away from its snarky and light-hearted movie formula.
Feige said, "It's not a serious movie, but we seriously dig into exploring more of Tony. The trick is just trying to make great movies. We try to make them all great, all different and all fresh. What you'll see in Iron Man 3 is some very unique directions that were taken."
Those 'unique directions' Feige is talking about is probably in thanks to director Shane Black who took over for Jon Favreau who directed the first two films. Black also clarified what's being done with the sequel by saying, "We're not aiming for bigger, necessarily. We're aiming for different and fresh and new."
As we now know, 'Iron Man 3' will take place after 'The Avengers' but for those of you hoping to see some Avengers cameos in the movie you will be disappointed. In a separate interview, Feige told Empire Magazine that 'Iron Man 3' will not feature any of the other Avengers but did explain the importance of 'Iron Man 3' happening after the event of the 'Avengers'
Feige said, "By the end of Avengers, when a portal is opened up in Manhattan and he's met Thor and The Hulk and the Chitauri are coming down on him, he realizes that he doesn't know everything; we think that has had an effect on his psyche, and then his world is blown out from underneath him."
