Natalie Portman Furious Over Patty Jenkins 'Thor 2' Exit

We reported recently that Marvel had dropped director Patty Jenkins from Thor 2, but I don't think they knew the media would take it as poorly as they had. But more importantly, they didn't think Thor's co-star Natalie Portman would take to it as negatively as she had. Portman did in fact urge marvel to hire Jenkins in the first place which would have made her the first female to direct a huge franchise movie for Marvel.

Portman had actually been contemplating taking a break from acting and really just jumped on board because of Jenkins involvement with the sequel. But now, Marvel does have Natalie on contract to do the film, so in order to try and smooth out the situation, Marvel will be working with her to decide on a new director for the project. And speaking of which, Daniel Minahian and Alan Taylor are the front runners to take Jenkins spot. They are currently best known for their work with the hit show Game of Thrones.

Now with Patty Jenkins leaving the project, at first it was said it was due to creative differences, but now that story is really starting to evolve. Sources are saying many different things. One being that Jenkins wasn't given any notice of Marvel's decision, and others saying that Marvel was worried she just wouldn't be able to complete the project on time due to a lack of decisive progression. That's hard to believe though, since Marvel doesn't even have a finalized script yet.

Finalized script or not, Marvel know exactly what they want and felt there were constraints in what Jenkins could do creatively.

But either way, no matter what the reason was, Jenkins has gone on to say that the decision was not gender related, and that she respects Marvel's decision and would love to work with them in the future.

Marvel has a tendency to call its own shots and play by their own rules so it'll be interesting to see who they end up hiring to direct this November 2013 release of Thor 2.
