Depending on who you are, the recent Sony leak is the gift that keeps on giving or it’s the worst thing to happen to the movie business since Michael Bay learned to make things go boom. For those of you in the former camp, we’ve got new details on what could be in store for the planned Ghostbusters reboot. The info comes courtesy of Vulture from an email director Paul Feig sent to Sony chief Amy Pascal. Keep in mind that this is early thoughts on the direction of the film, so there’s a good chance a lot of what we’ll cover here won’t end up making it into the final film, but we’re giving you a spoiler warning, just in case. We’ve known for a while that this new film will consist of an all-female team of Ghostbusters and will have no connection to the original films, which Feig reiterates in the email. So don’t expect humanity to start thinking seeing ghosts is a normal occurrence. Feige plans to make the new film much scarier than the original and will utilize more hi-tech gear. As for the villain, Feige would like Peter Dinklage cast in the role of a convicted murderer who turns into a ghost after he is hit by “a supercharged electrical storm” during his execution. He will raise an army of ghosts, that could include some of the most famous villains in history. It will be up to this new team of Ghostbusters, which will consist of “four very different women” to figure out “funny, scary and action-packed ways” to save New York and the world. The Ghostbusters will be hired by the US Government, but will disavow their partnership in order to not admit that ghosts really exist. This will lead to the Ghostbusters having a relationship with a government bureaucrat who says terrible things about them to the press, but then apologizes to them when behind closed doors. And who would be playing this two-faced government official? According to the email, Feig is interested in having Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong take on the role. As for which actresses will play the new busters of ghosts, a previous email suggests that Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer and Lizzy Caplan are all in the running while Rebel Wilson recently announced that she’s been approached as a possible contender as well. It’s also been revealed that Ryan Gosling is interested in taking on one of the only male leads in the film. In other Ghostbusters news, it was also revealed that Channing Tatum has pitched Sony an idea for a spinoff movie that would coincide with the reboot and feature Tatum and Chris Pratt battling ghosts in a movie he compared to Batman Begins. That version would potentially be produced by Captain America: The Winter Solider directors Joe and Anthony Russo and directed by Feig. Again, none of this is official, but what do you think of the direction of the Ghostbusters reboot and would you like to see Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt team up for a spinoff movie?
