The battle between two of the silver screens biggest stars has an official release date and we’ve got it for you right now! Move over Iron Man and Captain America, there’s an even bigger battle coming to theaters. Godzilla fans, listen up; we’ve got some good news and some bad news for you. Let’s rip the bandage off straight away and give you the bad news first. Warner Brothers Pictures has announced they will be pushing the release of Godzilla 2 a full 9 months from June 8th, 2018 to March 22nd, 2019. While this is disappointing for fans of the 2014 hit movie, honestly, the news shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. First off, director Gareth Edwards will be busy with this December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so the delay should give him more time to make the sequel that much more grand and second, Paramount had previously muscled in on Godzilla 2’s original 2018 release date by setting their Transformers spinoff focusing on Bumblebee for the same day. It was only a matter of time before Warner Brothers budged and now Godzilla 2 will face off against Paramount’s animated Amusement Park starring the voice of Matthew Broderick, star of that crappy Godzilla movie from the 90s. Circle of life, people! Since Amusement Park will be more for the kiddies, it will be much less competition for Godzilla 2 and as Batman v Superman proved earlier this year, moviegoers are just as willing to show up for a movie in March as they are in June. So while it sucks we have to wait an extra 9 months, it will probably be worth it in the end. Okay, now for the good news. In addition to the Godzilla 2 release date shift, the studio also announced a released date for the highly anticipated Godzilla vs Kong. That film, which, as the title suggests, will feature Godzilla taking on fellow movie monster King Kong. A connection between the two monsters is expected to be introduced in next year’s Kong: Skull Island, starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. With a Godzilla vs Kong release date now official, the big question is how these two cinematic beasts will actually face off. The Godzilla introduced in the 2014 hit film is roughly half the size of the Empire State Building, the famous New York landmark that King Kong has traversed in his previous big screen outings. We’re guessing he too will get a size bump, but just how big remains to be seen. So, who out there is marking their calendars for Godzilla 2 in 2019 and Godzilla vs Kong in 2020 and which side will you be on; Team Godzilla or Team Kong? Let us know in the comments and then click here to find out what we’d like see happen in Godzilla 2. I’m Jackie Iadonisi, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news.
