Doctor Strange Set For 2016

Get ready to delve into the mystical side of the Marvel universe as preparations are underway for Doctor Strange to arrive in theaters in 2016. Though we’ve yet to hear an official announcement from Marvel, it looks like the July 8th, 2016 release date they previously set has been reserved for none other than the Sorcerer Supreme. Screen Rant originally reported and it has since been confirmed that Marvel is in final negotiations with UK’s Pinewood Studios to film their next superhero adventure starting in May of next year. The plan would be for Doctor Strange to take over the space once production on the next Bond film wraps. Marvel and parent company Disney have had a longstanding relationship with the Pinewood having previously shot the first Captain America film there as well as Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy and next summer’s Avengers sequel. Star Wars Episode VII is currently utilizing the studio space as is Disney’s Alice In Wonderland sequel. The July 8th release date would fit perfectly with Marvel’s plan to pair a new property with an existing one each year. This past year we had Captain America: The Winter Solider with Guardians of the Galaxy and next year moviegoers will be introduced to Ant-Man following the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. If the Doctor Strange release pans out, it will be paired with Captain America 3, which is currently set for May 6th, 2016. Sinister director Scott Derrickson was previously announced as the man to bring Doctor Strange to the big screen, but so far the big question mark is who will take on the role of the titular character. Though several actors have been rumored for the role, Joaquin Phoenix seems the most likely candidate, rumored to be in negotiations since Comic Con. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, he is a former neurosurgeon who injures his hands in a terrible accident. While searching for a cure, he is bestowed with magical powers and becomes the primary protector of Earth against mystical threats. Again, no official announcement have been made yet, but are you excited to see Doctor Strange join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is Joaquin Phoenix the right actor to play him?
