Tom Holland Officially Cast As Spider Man

The long wait is finally over, the new Spider-Man has been officially announced! After an extensive and global casting search, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have found their new Peter Parker. In a join statement, the studios announced that The Impossible’s Tom Holland has landed the coveted role of Spider-Man and will appear in the July 28th, 2017 reboot to be directed by Jon Watts. Watts is the director of last year’s horror film Clown and the upcoming thriller, Cop Car starring Kevin Bacon. Holland has long been rumored to be a frontrunner for the role and landed the part thanks to his impressive work in The Impossible, Wolf Hall and the upcoming Ron Howard film, In the Heart of the Sea where he will star opposite fellow Avenger Chris Hemsworth. Just this past weekend, Holland posted some videos on Instagram showing off his acrobatic skills that will likely come in handy to play the webcrawler. Regarding Holland’s casting, Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal said quote, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin [Feige] and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Though it has long been speculated that Spider-Man will make his debut in next summer’s Captain America: Civil War with Holland expected to begin shooting sometime next month, there was no mention of that film in the announcement.
