Production on next year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel is underway in New York and today we’re getting our first official look at Stephen Amell as fan favorite “Casey Jones”! Regardless of what you thought of last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the reboot was a hit bringing in around $460 million on an estimated budget of $125 million and of course a sequel is on its way next summer with new additions that include Arrow star Stephen Amell as the hockey mask wearing vigilante “Casey Jones”. Producer Michael Bay took to Twitter today to reveal the first official image of Amell in full costume with his signature mask and hockey stick. From the look of the photo, Amell seems like a solid choice to play Jones in the sequel, though some fans have complained that he has forgone the character’s usual long locks for the actors normal short hair. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, “Casey Jones” is a vigilante who utilizes various sports equipment to take down his foes and is an ally to the Turtles and love interest to “April O’Neill”, played by Megan Fox in the film. The pair were seen filming on the streets of New York last night along with their fellow Turtle stars in motion capture suits. In addition to Amell and Fox, the Ninja Turtles sequel includes returning stars Will Arnett and William Fichtner and new additions Tyler Perry, as mad scientist “Baxter Stockman”, The Wolverine’s Brian Tee as “Shredder” and most recently, three-time Oscar nominee Laura Linney in an as yet unnamed role. It was also recently announced that fan favorites Rocksteady and Beebop would also be featured in the film, which is set to arrive in theaters on June 3rd, 2016.
