Channing Tatum Officially Joins XMen Cast

Dreams really do come true in Hollywood -- at least if your name is Channing Tatum. We told you back in January that Channing Tatum was campaigning to join the cast X-Men as fan favorite "Gambit" and it looks like that effort has officially paid off. At the X-Men Days of Future Past premiere in London, Total Film spoke with longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner who confirmed that Channing Tatum would be taking on the role of the Cajun rogue saying quote, "It is Channing...He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He's got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he'll be great, he'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he's not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans." As for when we will see Channing as "Gambit", nothing is confirmed just yet, but director Bryan Singer previously mentioned wanting to include the character in 2016's X-Men Apocalypse. This could be followed up by a standalone movie, which Donner had mentioned previously as a possibility. As I'm sure you know, Channing won't be the first actor to play "Gambit" on the big screen. Taylor Kitsch took on the role in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine though many fans were disappointed that he didn't take on a Cajun accent, something Channing has promised he would bring to the character. For those of you unfamiliar with "Gambit", he is a mutant and former thief turned X-Men. His mutant powers consist of the ability to turn the potential energy of an object into kinetic energy. This power usually manifests into a deck of playing cards he carries and utilizes as weapons. He is also considered a ladies man and has often been linked with fellow X-Men Rogue in the comics.
