Joe Mangianello has officially joined the DC Extended Universe and we’ve got the details for you right now! The identity of the actor playing “Deathstroke” has finally been revealed! Last week brought tons of excitement and a lot of speculation when Ben Affleck tweeted out what looked to be test footage of longtime Batman baddie “Deathstroke”. While Affleck didn’t give any specifics on exactly what the footage was, many believed it was either a hint that we would see the character appear in next year’s Justice League or the planned Batman solo movie that Affleck is set to direct. In addition to not knowing what exactly we were seeing, it was also unclear which actor was behind the mask, but now that particular mystery has been solved. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal discussing his new position as overseer of the DC Extended Universe, Geoff Johns confirmed what many fans had already assumed – Joe Mangianello will play “Deathstroke” in the upcoming Batman movie. While Johns did confirm Mangianello’s casting, he would not reveal whether or not we’ll see him first in next year’s Justice League movie or when we could potentially see the Batman movie arrive in theaters, though 2018 seems most likely. Johns and Affleck are currently writing the screenplay for the film, which Affleck had previously stated the studio already has a planned date for, but part of his agreement to sign on was he wouldn’t go into production until he had a script he was happy with. Fans will likely be excited for Mangianello’s casting confirmation considering he has been rumored to be taking on the role since back in April 2015. Mangianello was rumored to be playing “Deathstroke” in Suicide Squad, but later revealed that he had been in talks for a different role, but never signed on to the film. What other role he could have potentially played in the DCEU remains unclear.
