Justice League Dark is gaining momentum and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed! The DC Extended Universe is about to get dark! Despite losing the talent of Guillermo Del Toro, it looks like Warner Brothers is keen to bring Justice League Dark to the big screen. Also known as “Dark Universe”, the film would focus on a team of lesser-known heroes and anti-heroes that protect the world from magical and mystical mayhem. Most recently, Steve Jobs producer Scott Rudin jumped on board to produce the project and thanks to the positive response to next summer’s Suicide Squad, the film has reportedly become a priority for the studio and its plans to create a shared universe of DC characters. While Del Toro reportedly exited the project over casting and scheduling issues, the studio are extremely happy with his script and according to JoBlo are eyeing Big Bad Wolves directors Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado and Evil Dead remake helmer Fede Alvarez as frontrunners to direct the film. Though there is no official release date set, the studio is reportedly eyeing a 2016 start date for production that could potentially see the film arriving sometime in 2017 alongside currently set DC films, Wonder Woman and Justice League Part 1. On the casting side, Latino Review reports that the studio is looking for an A-list talent to play team leader “John Constantine” and are eyeing Colin Farrell, who is currently shooting the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts for the studio, as the frontrunner with Ewan McGregor having also been approached – though it is said that he could also be eyed to play “Jason Blood”, aka “Etrigan the Demon”. Del Toro reportedly wanted Ron Perlman as “Swamp Thing” and he is rumored to still be the frontrunner, while Spectre’s Monica Bellucci is rumored to be the studio’s pick for “Madame Xanadu”. As for “Deadman”, the studio is reportedly looking for a comedian to take on the role, while they are eyeing a newcomer for the role of “Zatanna”. As for the film’s villain, Heroic Hollywood is reporting that Rogue One star Ben Mendelsohn is being eyed to play Swamp Thing antagonist “Anton Arcane” who is a mad scientist known for creating monstrous creatures from the dead in his quest for immortality. Though we likely won’t see any major DC characters like Batman or Superman in the film, Suicide Squad’s “Enchantress” played by Cara Delevigne, could make a cameo to help tie the film into the larger DCEU. While all of this should be considered rumors for now, what do you think of the potential cast and who would you like see helm the project?
