The live action Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren may have been a huge flop back in the 80's, but the success of the toyline and animated series is enough for Hollywood to once again try to launch a successful movie franchise.
The project has been in development for quite some time and now, according to Deadline, it looks like the film may finally become a reality as Sony Pictures is eyeing director Jon M. Chu to helm the project. Chu, best known for directing two of the Step Up sequels, is currently busy working on the 3D conversion of another movie based on a toy line, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, based on the popular Hasbro toys. The sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was set to release this summer, but at the last minute was switched to a March 29th, 2013 release in order to avoid the superhero crowded summer as well as convert to 3D and shoot new scenes expanding the role of Channing Tatum, who has seen his star rise considerably this year.
As for He-Man, there is no release date currently planned, but a script is reportedly ready to go. If Chu does sign on, we could see the film get fast-tracked for a possible 2014 release. He-Man tells the story of a prince that is bestowed with powers that transform into the powerful He-Man through the use of a magical, which he uses to battle an evil sorcerer named Skeletor.
So we have to ask, are you excited to see another live-action version of He-Man on the big screen and do you think Chu is the right man for the job? Let us know in the comments and be sure to subscribe to our channel for the latest movie news. I'm Vivian Fabiola thanks for watching!
