A new rumor claims to have details on where the new Batman movie will take place and we’re breaking it down for you right now! It looks like the next Batman movie could be finding inspiration from a popular video game. While we still don’t know exactly when we will be getting a new Batman movie, we do know one is in the works with Ben Affleck not only set to star, but also direct and co-write the screenplay with DC Films’ Geoff Johns and now we may know where the film will be set. According to Batman on Film’s sources, the next film will take place in none other than Arkham Asylum, the infamous psychiatric hospital that has been home to many of Batman’s more mentally deranged foes. While this should be considered a rumor for now, it does fit in with reports that the film would include many of Batman’s most notable villains. Arkham Asylum has a long history in Batman lore first appearing in the comics in 1974. It was also the main location for the 1989 graphic novel, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth and the popular Batman: Arkham Asylum video game released in 2009. While Batman On Film’s sources say that the new film will not be direct adaptions of either stories and this fits with Affleck’s previous statements that it will be an original story, he also stated that he plans to borrow from some of the best Batman storylines of the past, so perhaps he found inspiration in one or both of these storylines? As for when we could potentially see a new Batman movie, Affleck previously stated that the studio has a date in mind, but he may not be able to make it as he doesn’t plan on going into production until they have the perfect script. With Warner Brothers’ Comic-Con panel set for this Saturday, perhaps we will be getting more details soon?
