A fourth Star Trek movie will see the return of a familiar face and we’ve got the details for you right now! We still have a few days until Star Trek Beyond arrives in theaters, but we now already know the plot of the next installment. Paramount Pictures has officially announced plans for a fourth Star Trek movie that will be written by Star Trek Beyond original writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay and produced by J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber. While no director or release date has been announced, the film will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as “George Kirk”, father of Chris Pine’s “Captain James Kirk”. According to the studio’s announcement, the plot of the new film will focus on Pine’s “Captain Kirk” crossing paths with his father, played by Hemsworth, a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born. Hemsworth appeared in the opening of 2009’s Star Trek reboot and was immediately killed by a time-travelling “Nero”, played by Eric Bana on the same day that his son was born. It was this event that reset the timeline from the original series. In addition to Hemsworth and Pine, Star Trek 4 is also expected to see the return of cast members Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg, though none of them have been officially confirmed. Also, no word on how the studio will deal with the recent death of Anton Yelchin, who was killed in a freak accident last month. Yelchin played “Chekov” in the first three films, including Star Trek Beyond which arrives in theaters this Friday. As for a potential release date, 2019 or 2020 seem like the most logical options for a fourth film to arrive in theaters.
