John Williams has composed some of the most iconic film scores of all time and his music for the original Superman films was no exception. It's no wonder Hans Zimmer was hesitant to take on Man of Steel when longtime collaborator Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder asked him to do it. In a recent interview with CNN, Zimmer said he was so intimidated about following in Williams footsteps that it took him three months of procrastinating before he even began. He ultimately decided to take a different approach to the material and look at the story of Superman in a different way saying quote, "I kept thinking of the story as, What if you are extraordinary, and your entire ambition is to join humanity? To become human? What does it mean to become human? What does it mean to be an outsider who really wants to join the human race?" Zimmer also used his personal thoughts about America and specifically the Midwest as inspiration for the film's score explaining that being a foreigner himself allows him to see and appreciate things differently than someone born here. And despite Nolan's involvement in the film, Zimmer ensures us Man of Steel is much lighter than The Dark Knight trilogy, which he also scored the music for. So what can we expect from the music when Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14th? For one thing, lots of drums as Zimmer enlisted heavyweights like Jason Bonham, Shelia E. and Pharrell Williams to be part of a 12-member drum circle. We for one can't wait to hear how the Man of Steel soundtrack turns out, but what about you? Do you think Zimmer will be able to create a unique sound for Superman is as iconic as John Williams or is it just too daunting a task for anyone to ever accomplish? Give us your thought below or tweet us @ClevverMovies. I'm Erin White, thanks for watching!
