It's been rumored that next summer's 'Man of Steel' will be the launching pad for a shared DC Universe, but could a shared universe have already started with Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' trilogy?
With Justice League rumored to be hitting theaters in 2015, there has been much speculation on how Warner Bros will introduce a shared universe for their slate of superheroes. Would they take a cue from Marvel and introduce their individual characters in standalone films and then bring them together a la 'The Avengers' or would they go the opposite route and use Justice League as a starting point? 'Man of Steel' director Zack Snyder previously stated that his Superman would have nothing to do with the Justice League movie, but recent comments have suggested Snyder has changed his tune and we may see an appearance of one or more Justice League members in 'Man of Steel'.
Of course, one possibility is the DC shared universe has already started and will continue where 'The Dark Knight Rises' left off. If you are one of the few who haven't seen that film, warning, spoilers ahead. According to website Motion Captured, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently in talks to take over the role of Batman in Justice League and sources tell them his appearance in the superhero team-up movie is absolutely happening. We learned at the end of Rises that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character "Blake" is actually Robin and inheritor of Bruce Wayne's Batcave and all the gadgets within. Though Nolan has stated that he is no longer interested in any more Batman films, this latest rumor does suggest that the world of Gotham he created could in fact house other heroes, like Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash. Keep in mind Nolan is a producer on 'Man of Steel'. Motion Captured's sources also suggest that we could be seeing Gordon-Levitt in the Bat suit sooner than expected. The boy wonder could appear as the new Batman as soon as next year in 'Man of Steel' in what would most likely be an end credits scene.
Of course, this should all be taken as rumor at this point, but the prospect of seeing JGL as Batman on the same screen as Henry Cavill's Superman has us intrigued. What about you though? Would you like to see the DC Universe continue where 'The Dark Knight Rises' left off and could Joseph Gordon-Levitt make the perfect Batman for Justice League even if he's not Bruce Wayne?
