Reboots and remakes are coming out of the Hollywood woodwork these days, and we have the latest on two movies that are getting the do-over treatment. Remake news should come as no surprise to you all by now and today we are getting word that two more classic 80's films are getting rebooted, starting with the 1980's sci-fi adventure film, Explorers. THR is reporting that Paramount's low budget label called Insurge is taking the reins on this one, and the script will be written by screen writing duo Geoff Moore and Dave Posamentier who are also the writers and directors behind the new Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde film, Better Living Through Chemistry. Now, if you were around in the 80's you might remember that Explorers jump started the career of a young Ethan Hawke. The film also starred River Phoenix and child actor Jason Presson. In the film, these three youngsters were on a mission to create a homemade spaceship, but as endearing as this sounds, the movie flopped big at the boxoffice back in 1985. However, it's an 80's sci-fi adventure movie, so overtime it has earned it's place as a classic. We haven't heard too many details just yet on how the studio will revamp the film, but rumor is that IT will have a similar tone to that of the upcoming, Michael Bay found footage film, Welcome To Yesterday. Now, another classic that's getting that remake treatment is the 1983 movie Something Wicked This Way Comes, which was originally based on a Ray Bradbury thriller novel by the same name. Disney is responsible for this reboot, and has already lined up Dark Shadow's screenwriter Seth Grahame Smith to make his directorial debut on the project. And if Seth's name sounds familiar, it's because he is also the guy who is working on the screenplay for that highly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel. Something Wicked is a very dark and twisted, coming of age, horror adventure that follows two young boys through a life changing and also somewhat disturbing carnival experience. According to Deadline, Grahame-Smith's plan isn't to directly remake the film. His goal is to focus mostly on Ray Bradbury's source material from the book, which was something the original film didn't do as well. Seth Grahame Smith is a name we are probably going to hear mentioned more and more around Hollywood, and to get the latest update on that long awaited Beetlejuice sequel, you should definitely click right here. So are you convinced that Hollywood has officially run out of ideas, or are you glad some of these classic films are getting updated to appeal to a new generation of movie fans?
