With Disney purchasing Marvel, it was inevitable that we would one day get a full length animated movie released on the big screen and last year we revealed that film would be the Japanese superhero team of Big Hero 6. There has been little word on the movie since, but now, thanks to Hero Complex, we are getting more information, including a release date. For those of you unfamiliar with the property, Big Hero 6 was a team of Japanese heroes that first debuted back in 1998. Probably the most notable members was the mutant Silver Samurai, who will appear as a foe to Hugh Jackman in this summer's The Wolverine. Other members include Honey Lemon who created a nanotech-based Power Purse where she retrieves various objects, former X-Men Sunfire, who could generate plasma blasts and 13-year-old boy genius Hiro and his robot Baymax. With Fox owning the movie rights to the X-Men universe, it's unclear which characters we'll actually see in the film, but we do know the film will focus primarily on Hiro and Baymax who find themselves in the middle of a criminal plot to destroy their city. They must join forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters to save it. The film is being handled through Walt Disney Animation Studios and is being helmed by Winnie the Pooh director Don Hall. Though the original comic took place in Japan, the film version will take place in the mythical city known as San Fransokyo, a San Francisco inspired city with heavy Japanese influence. As for the reason Disney decided to choose Big Hero 6 as their first Marvel animated feature, director Hall explained saying quote, "I was looking for something on the obscure side, something that would mesh well with what we do. The idea of a kid and a robot story with a strong brother element, it's very Disney." Though the film is being handled through Disney Animation, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has been involved with the project and agrees with the choice to bring it to the big screen saying quote, "The relationship between Hiro and his robot has a very Disney flavor to it...but it's combined with these Marvel heroic arcs." Big Hero 6 is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2014. So are you interested to see how Big Hero 6 turns out and which characters would you like to see join the team? Is there another Marvel property you'd like to see turned into an animated film? Give us your suggestions below or tweet us @ClevverMovies. I'm Erin Darling, thanks for watching!
