After my X380-C dropped from the sky (see video: ) I was a little hesitant to try another GPS quad. I thought I would give another one a try if I could find something in about the same price range ready to fly right out of the box. The UPAIR One fits the bill.
If you want to skip the unboxing and go right to the setup and flight test, go to 11:10.
This is episode #1 of a series of videos I am calling, "The Road Back to Trusting GPS Quads." I will be chronicling my experience with the UPAIR One and carefully working myself up to full out flying.
In this episode you'll see that the quad locks onto satellites extremely fast, literally within seconds, BUT it does not hold its position well indicating that it needs compass calibration. Problem is, there is really no manual way to calibrate. I will try a suggestion I found on rcgroups.com which is to rotate the quad clockwise while hovering in ALTHOLD mode to calibrate. I hope that works.
Auto-return is spot on, but the landing location is a bit off due to the poor calibration. The low voltage failsafe return to home works flawlessly. The 7" monitor was perfectly visible, but there was quite a bit of cloud cover during this flight. Camera quality is great and the gimbal does its job for steady shots. Really easy to set-up and get in the air.
Many more videos to come. Still need to test range of the quad, fpv signal and to test the gimbal in flight.
