Ubisoft is at it again, preparing a new video game adaptation for the big screen, but this time its a game you probably haven't even played before. It's a gutsy move, but Sony and New Regency along with Ubisoft Motion Pictures are teaming up to develop a movie based on the soon to be released game, Watch Dogs. Now this will be the third movie property Ubisoft has in development, with projects like A Splinter Cell starring Tom Hardy, and Assassins Creed starting Michael Fassbender in the works. But, both of those gaming properties have been around for years, and have huge built in fan bases. So, the fact that the studio is willing to gamble on a video game property that hasn't even been released yet is very interesting. And while it definitely seems risky, there has already been a ton of buzz around Watch Dogs, and the studio is hoping that that will continue to grow with this new blockbuster announcement. President of Production for Columbia Pictures, Hannah Minghella, said that it was the perfect property to make the transition on to the big screen, because it's not only an intense action adventure, but it also has a thriller aspect to it because of its focus on information and the control of that information through technology. And unlike some of other gaming properties out there, Watch Dogs has a strong and interesting story line. It follows a hacker and vigilante, living in Chicago, who is out on a mission for justice and revenge because of something terrible that has happened to his family. He ultimately hacks into Chicago's Central Operating System, which has a ton of data about the city and it's population and he'll use that information to turn the city into the ultimate weapon. And if you are a gamer, the release date for current gen consoles for Watch Dogs is November 19th, and next gen will be in December. Watch Dogs will likely be a huge hit for Ubisoft and it's already won a ton of awards including three IGN awards, and Best of Show from Gaming Excellence in 2012, but do you think that's enough for it to become a successful movie franchise as well? And do you like the idea that Ubisoft is already developing a movie based on a game that hasn't hit shelves yet?
