After lots of rumors and speculation, Marvel's upcoming slate of films have finally been revealed and we've got the recap from Comic-Con on everything you need to know.
Marvel hit up Hall H in San Diego to give Comic-Con the announcement they've been eagerly awaiting. Phase One ended with the huge success of The Avengers, becoming the third highest grossing movie of all time with a worldwide gross of $1.5 billion so far. The studio is eager to begin Phase Two of their plot for superhero dominance on the big screen and we know that begins next summer with the release of Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, 2013. Robert Downey Jr. and some of his co-stars were on hand in San Diego to promote the film and even showed some footage that confirmed Ben Kingsley's role as "Mandarin", despite the studio previously denying the character would be appearing in the film.
So what else does Marvel have in store for us in the coming years? The other big announcements were titles for their sequels to Thor and Captain America. Thor: The Dark World will it theaters November 8, 2013 and it was revealed that filming on the sequel starring Chris Hemsworth has already begun in London. We also learned that Loki will not be the main villain, but will play an important part in the film and Zachary Levin has been confirmed to replace Josh Dallas as Fandral the Dashing.
As for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, filming will begin in January for an April 4th, 2014 release. We know that the story will closely follow the aftermath of The Avengers as Steve Rogers remains an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. The subtitle "The Winter Soldier" also has gained speculation that sidekick Bucky Barnes who was seen plummeting off a speed training into a frozen river in the original film will be returning for the sequel as the main villain as he is turned into an assassin known as "The Winter Soldier" in the comics.
And finally, it came as no big surprise that Guardians of the Galaxy was announced as the film that would be taking the August 1st, 2014 release date. It was previously revealed that would be the film, but it has finally be confirmed and we even got an official logo and concept art of the heroes that will reportedly battle Thanos and be a possible precursor to The Avengers 2.
Speaking of The Avengers 2, despite having previously confirmed the sequel, Marvel did not include a logo or release date for that film, but they did announce Ant-Man would be going into production, though no release date has been set for that film either.
