XBOX ONE MULTIPLAYER FEATURES (Escapist News Now)
Microsoft released a new video detailing the new features for online multiplayer with Xbox One. One of the big things they are focusing on is Smart Match and the Reputation System. Smart Match groups people with similar reputation together. Plus it allows you to search for matches in the background while doing other things.
The Reputation System helps identify you in the Smart Match system, and ranks what kind of player you are. You'll be able to quickly block people in the online space, and being blocked will factor in to your overall reputation.
They also discussed how cloud servers are going to factor into multiplayer including the new dedicated server model which makes cheating more difficult, amongst other things. They also mentioned we'll see more and more developers using cloud servers for game computation, including upcoming games like Titanfall. Using the cloud allows Respawn to use larger host servers for larger numbers of players in matches, freeing up processing power on the console.
They also mentioned if you are a Xbox Live Gold member you'll be able to share Gold benefits with your family or friends that visit your home, in addition to the previously announced digital game sharing. Plus, achievements are being de-coupled from games, meaning developers can start offering new achievements as often as they like. For example, if there are weekly tournaments for online play you could be earning additional gamerscore and achievements.
