Michael B Jordan Responds To FANTASTIC FOUR Casting Backlash

Actor Michael B Jordan finally speaks out about landing the role of "Human Torch" in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot and all the backlash it has generated. Backlash from casting decisions is definitely not a new thing and fans get especially heated when it comes to their favorite comic book characters. Michael Keaton as Batman and Heath Ledger as The Joker are two examples that often come to mind and most recently, and probably most relevant, is Jamie Foxx landing the role of Spider-Man foe "Electro" in this summer's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Of course, people thought Keaton and Ledger weren't right for the roles for various reasons, but in the case of Foxx playing "Electro" and now Jordan playing "Human Torch", the main criticism is one of race. At a recent event in Rome, Jordan addressed the negative reaction from some fan's saying quote, "It was expected. You kinda know going into it that people are used to seeing something one way; it's a continuity thing more than anything. People don't like change too much." Jordan went on to explain that he grew up reading comic books and the Fantastic Four and "Human Torch" were some of his favorite characters and he plans to give the role everything he has and isn't letting the backlash get to him. As for the reason he decided to take the role, Jordan revealed quote, "It's going to be fun to kind of show a side of me that I don't really get to show on screen, to be a little bit lighter, funnier, just more personality. It's going to be fun." When the announcement was first made, there were definitely a number of you out there not happy with the change, but more of you seemed excited about Jordan landing the role and praised his acting chops in such films as Chronicle and Fruitvale Station. Honestly, more people seemed to have issue with the casting of some of his co-stars, particularly Miles Teller as "Reed Richards" and Kate Mara as "Sue Storm". But, as Jordan said, you can't make everybody happy and comic book fans will eventually have to learn that what you see in the pages of your favorite comics won't look the same when they make it on to the big screen. For better or worse. We'll have to wait until June 19th, 2015 to see how the new Fantastic Four team actually works out, but you can click here for full details on the casting and what we can expect from the reboot: But we have to know, do you think filmmaker's have a responsibility to comic fans to stay true to the source material or are they free to make any changes they feel appropriate? Here's your chance to vent, so head on down to the comments section and have at it. I'm Erin Robinson, we'll see you soon.
