Psychonauts was originally about an ostrich suffering from a multiple personality disorder. According to Tim Schafer, the bird’s powers would come from his mental imbalance and the control scheme revolved around one stick moving the character and the other just for pecking.

In mind of peppy go-go girl Milla, you can find a playroom that she discourages you from entering. In it, there’s a surprisingly dark memory vault that reveals Milla used to work in an orphanage that caught on fire and she was unable to save any of the children. If you listen closely, you can hear the children cry out “why did you let us die?”
Fast Facts!
Schafer’s addiction to the social media site Friendster was preventing him from getting any work done during the early development cycle of Psychonauts. But instead of kicking his addiction, he created Friendster profiles for all of the Psychonauts characters as a way to flesh out their bios, develop their dialogue, and introduce them to his team.
