We loved the classic attire that Professor X and his team of mutants donned in X-Men First Class, but should we worry about what the X-Men will be wearing next now that the team who put Wolverine in black leather are back in charge?
Fans were disappointed when First Class director Matthew Vaughn suddenly dropped the sequel in order to focus on another project that may or may not be Star Wars. After all, he and costume designer Sammy Sheldon gave the team a classic comic look that still seemed fresh and modern. Fans of the franchise were somewhat relieved when original X-Men director Bryan Singer decided to step back behind the camera to take on the time travel sequel Days of Future Past, but relief quickly turned back to worry when it was announced that Singer would be bringing along Louise Mingenbach, the costume designer on the first two films as well as X-Men Origins Wolverine to the sequel.
When X-Men was first released in 2000, many thought the colorful, over the top costumes from the comics wouldn't work on screen, so they decided to take a cue from a certain Dark Knight and put all the characters in similar, boring black leather outfits that changed very little through all three films. So can we expect the same now that Singer is back in charge? We can happily say no. The director tweeted out the following update to fans:
"For those of you wondering...no leather suits. #xmen
So we can expect the old school X-Men to most likely sport similar yellow costumes, but we'll have to wait and see what the modern aka future X-Men are wearing once filming begins. Production is scheduled to begin in April for a planned July 18th, 2014 release.
So are you excited to the black leather outfits from the original series won't be making a comeback in Days of Future Past? Give us your X-Men fashion hopes below and be sure to Like us on Facebook for update on X-Men and a whole lot more. I'm Erin White in Hollywood and we'll see you next time!
