Bad news: Captain Marvel didn’t make the Age of Ultron cut, but good news: Marvel actually listens to your casting ideas! We have the super facts here on Clevver Newsfeed! If you thought the new Avengers line up at the end of Age of UItron was a little janky, you weren’t the only one. At a recent promo event for the blu-ray release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel head Kevin Feige fielded a few questions about the rumored Captain Marvel cameo that was originally planned to be inserted into the final group shot at the end of the film and he was quick to reference Cap’s “’27 Yankees” line saying, “Well if Captain Marvel is there, what does that say about her?” The Marvel mastermind doubled down on thoughts he’s already shared on the matter of the absentee Carol Danvers cameo by pointing out that Marvel’s first female superhero – and all of their major heroes in general – deserve complete origin stories. Sort of ignoring the fact that Black Widow still doesn’t have a movie, but whatever…The point is that neither Feige nor the rest of the Marvel creative crews thought giving Carol a brief cameo in full Avengers gear would do anyone a service. Studio exec Jeremy Latcham added on that Captain Marvel wasn’t even the only new member originally considered, saying several new characters were being thrown about early on for the New Avengers line up, but it eventually got whittled down to just Captain Marvel, but even Joss Whedon was tepid to the shoehorning of the character. Ultimately, as we all know, Carol isn’t in the final film and it’s likely for the best – she deserves a full-force introduction of an origin film. And from how things sound – there wouldn’t have ever been a face to attach to the character even if they had put her cameo in as Feige confirmed to MTV that they’re nowhere close to announcing who has been cast in the part mainly because they haven’t really fully thought about it. For now, the priority for Kevin and crew is to make sure they have the best script – being written by Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman and Inside Out’s Meg LaFauve – and figuring out Carol as a person and how she fits into Phase 3 of the universe. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t kind of thought about it, as Feige said he and the team generally have a good idea of who they want in the role, but he also confirmed every internet commenter’s dream by saying they look at fan lists when they’re made. Exec Jeremy Latcham added, “We read it, we go through it, we read the comments, we look at who people like. Sometimes it’s really enlightening.” He also went on to say that sometimes it’s the same name over and over that they just don’t agree with, but the point is – they’re looking! So keep your comment game up because your opinion just might matter to the decision makers over at Marvel Studios. So who do you think should land the coveted role of Marvel’s first female superhero to get her own movie? Head down to the comments or tweet us @ClevverMovies and share your thoughts and then click here to find out what 7 things we think need to happen in the Captain Marvel movie when it arrives in theaters on November 2nd, 2018.
