Fans who are falling for CAYE’s new “LA Life” might want to go back a bit; the Boston MC has been dropping catchy tracks for the last few years. The 19-year old singer/rapper/producer made a mark with “Gold,” “Miles” and the fetchingly diverse songs that comprise his ‘Day Trips’ EP. His sound is breezy, upbeat and purposefully eclectic – it’s not every MC who also plays steel drums. “I grew up listening to reggae, rock, and jazz,” he says. “I feel like it’s all coming together into one genre with my music, which is dope. I wouldn’t want to limit myself to rap.”
As a young music-maker who dabbled in EDM and hip-hop, CAYE never thought to spit over his own tracks. It was his cousin, tropical house producer Thero, who convinced him otherwise. When the results hit SoundCloud, everything started to pop. Though still a college student, Caye is also finalizing work on his upcoming ‘Pink Tree Paradise’ album. He brought plenty of swag and some irresistible rhymes to his exclusive dscvr performance. Don’t miss “With U.”
