Plans are already in motion to reboot the Batman franchise, but will it be another origin story? We have details that may shed some light on the next Dark Knight film.
With Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy coming to an end with the release of The Dark Knight Rises next month, the studio behind the project, Warner Bros, is already looking to the future of the franchise. A reboot has already been planned with director Christopher Nolan staying on as a producer. Speculation has been that the reboot would be hitting theaters sometime in 2015 followed by the long planned Justice League film to follow shortly after. The question that remained was whether this would be a full on reboot with another origin story for the character similar to what we saw done with Batman Begins or possibly some sort of continuation of Nolan's Batman - maybe with Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking on the role as Batman?
Cosmic Book News is reporting that sources close to the film are saying the reboot will NOT be an origin story, but instead follow Batman in his second year of crime fighting with a release date eyed for 2016 AFTER the release of a Justice League film. The film would carry the potential title of "The Batman" according to the report and will be within the same DC Universe as that of the Justice League.
The report also mentions that next year's Man of Steel will be the film that launches a shared DC Universe on the big screen that will ultimately lead to the Justice League film, similar to what Iron Man did for The Avengers. No confirmation from the studio, but it would seem odd for a new Batman to be introduced in a Justice League movie instead of his own standalone film. He is, after all, one of the most successful superhero franchises of all time.
We previously reported that writers have been set to bring Justice League as well as solo films for Wonder Woman and The Flash. No word yet on when we can expect any of those films to hit the big screen.
So what do you think, should Batman be reborn in the Justice League movie or would you like to see another Dark Knight solo film before he teams up with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash?
