Suicide Squad stars Jared Leto and Cara Delevigne are getting us ready for Halloween and we have the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Who exactly is the villain of next year’s Suicide Squad? A pair of new Empire Magazine covers have us wondering. An electrified Leto and his cheekbones appear ready to cut the next helpless victim that catches his unfortunate gaze on the latest cover of Empire Magazine and once again we’re left wondering just how exactly his character is going to play in to the film’s plot. The Suicide Squad mysteries don’t stop with The Joker though. Who the true villain of the film is becomes a little tricky to determine when it’s a film about bad guys working for a corrupt government and apparently, director David Ayer thinks it’s a lot more interesting that way, telling Empire that he prefers bad versus evil, adding on that Viola Davis’ “Amanda Waller” is the worst there is. Fans of previous Suicide Squad storylines in the animated movies and comics know for sure that Waller is a baddie and corrupt to the bone, but her villainy drives the Squad’s missions and motives. If she was the film’s main villain, that would undercut her power over audiences and the characters in the inevitable sequels, right? So who is the primary villain? Director David Ayer certainly isn’t giving up the mystery any time soon, only dropping the hint that the team is after a high-value target, but once they get there, they find that’s not the end of their mission. So the question then becomes, who’s the high-value target and then what makes them have to keep going? Best guess for either besides the Joker is the mysterious “Enchantress” who just so happened to have her own exclusive Empire cover released today and, well, it’s creepy to the say the least. Channeling her inner-Samara, Cara Delevigne looks utterly macabre in a sort of Slave Leia meets The Ring kind of way. The duality of the character doesn’t stop there as Delevigne revealed to Empire that Enchantress is ultimately comprised of two people and that fact may be revealing of the Squad’s true mission and the film’s main villain. Known in some of the old comics as “The Switcheroo Witcheroo,” Enchantress is actually an ancient sorceress whose been locked away for centuries, only to be reawakened when someone stumbles upon her resting place. That someone happens to be Delevigne’s character “June Moon” and the former model dropped that her Enchantress transformation opens up the film, telling Empire, “June is an adventure-seeker who's always wanted some excitement. And she gets what she wished for, in a terrible way. At the start of the movie she discovers a cavern and finds...something...within." The brief appearances of the character in the trailers have her absent from the rest of the team lineup, perhaps suggesting she’s not aligned with the others. We also know from the comics that Enchantress’ magical powers can often times overwhelm the weaker bad guys she’s surrounded with, so does June waking the Enchantress scare Amanda Waller and the government enough to assemble Task Force X or is it the Joker they’re after and then they stumble on Enchantress? We’ll have to wait until August 5th to find out for sure, but what do you think?
