Hugh Jackman Ready To Call It Quits On Wolverine

Hugh Jackman will once again don his trademark mutton chops and Adamantium claws in this month's X-Men Days of Future Past, but could that be the last time we see him as Wolverine on the big screen? Wolverine fans were excited when just this past March, Deadline reported that Fox had set a March 3rd, 2017 release for a third solo Wolverine movie and Jackman and The Wolverine director James Mangold were on board along with screenwriter David James Kelly. Well, according to Jackman, he's not as committed to the project as many think telling SFX Magazine that he's not officially signed on yet, but is working with Mangold on figuring out a possible story. His decision to return will depend heavily on if they are able to make it better than the last film and not just as good saying quote, "I'm genuinely at that point where unless it's better than the last one I'm not going to do it...I think it has to be better. I can still see where we can improve on the last one. I love the intimacy of that story, I liked the small stuff, I liked that it was a little unexpected. I don't want to get into specifics, because it just upsets people, but there are certain parts of that story where I felt we were predictable. And I don't think you need to do that with Wolverine. What's exciting is that you can make it a more interior story, and people actually prefer that. And that was good to show and convince everyone -- especially everyone who greenlights the movies!" If they are able to get a script together that Jackman thinks is better than The Wolverine, he did admit the third film would most likely be his last as Wolverine. As far as plot, nothing is set yet, but Jackman did joke that the Mark Millar penned "Old Man Logan" comic would probably be the only story left to tell at this point. That storyline involves an aged Wolverine living in a world controlled by supervillains where he ends up getting eaten by Hulk. Something tells us we probably won't be seeing that on the big screen anytime soon. Though it looks like Jackman's long tenure as Wolverine will be coming to an end sooner than expected, Fox is already looking at another popular character for a possible solo film.
