I visited a new FPV location which includes a relic concrete flood control dam from 1927 and it's replacement, an earthen dam from 1979, plus the buttes (hills) that they span across the Cave Creek wash. Cave Creek does not regularly run and actually becomes a vestigial path of greenbelt and concrete drainways through the city of Phoenix, but it does occasionally flood north of the city.
Here is a trike flight I took in 2013 over the same dam after a flood, showing water. The scalloped concrete dam is actually not active, so there is water on both sides of it.
