After months of rumors and virtual silence from director J.J. Abrams, Disney and Lucasfilm, the cast of Star Wars Episode VII has finally been revealed! As we've expected for quite some time, original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will all reprise their roles in the new trilogy with Deadline reporting that Ford will have quote, "a gigantic role" in the first film. This comes as a bit of a surprise considering Ford has tried to distance himself from "Han Solo" throughout his career and has stated that he thought his character should have been killed off in Return of the Jedi. Perhaps he'll finally get his wish? Other original cast members set to return include Anthony Daniels, as C3-PO, Kenny Baker as R2-D2 and Peter Mayhew as "Chewbacca". Notably absent from the announcement is Billy Dee Williams, who has long been rumored to be reprising his role as "Lando Calrissian" in the new films. Williams was most recently a cast member on Dancing with the Stars and had to drop out due to a back injury. No word on if that injury had anything to do with his name being absent from the announcement. In addition to some of the original cast members, the film will include a slew of new actors including Adam Driver, who has long been rumored to be playing the main villain in the film. Other previously rumored names that have been confirmed include Attack the Block's John Boyega and About Time star Domhnall Gleeson. The cast will also include Lord of the Rings' Andy Serkis, film legend Max Von Sydow, Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac and relative newcomer Daisy Ridley. No word yet on which roles they will be playing. Regarding the announcement, Abrams said quote, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud." Rumors of an announcement began recently when Disney's Alan Horn revealed that they were finalizing casting and original cast members were spotted gathering in London. The cast is expected to unite tomorrow for a table read ahead of production. Many anticipated that the cast announcement would happen on Sunday as part of the May the 4th celebrations. We'll just have to wait and see if Disney has something else planned for fans as part of Star Wars Day. Star Wars Episode 7 is set to arrive in theaters on December 18th, 2015 and to find out which films, tv shows, books and video games will be part of the films canon, be sure to click right here.
