Robert Downey Jr. Hints At Tony Stark Retirement

Would Robert Downey Jr. say goodbye to Iron Man? Well, he is certainly hinting at it. The actor sat down for a very in depth interview with GQ, and admitted that while Tony Stark and the project has meant a lot to him, he's not quite sure how many more genre movies he can do. He said quote " How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?...Right now I don't have a contract to do anything, and I did for the last five years." He also mentioned that he is quickly approaching 50, and after a pretty serious ankle injury he sustained on set while shooting Iron Man 3, he's really started thinking about what's next, and he's not saying just yet whether that's Iron Man or not. As for Iron Man 3, RDJ has actually been very involved off camera as well. The actor admitted that he spent a lot of time in the editing suite this time around, which is usually not a place where actors are welcome. But he assured that he wasn't there to meddle but to help, working with the crew on quote "Pacing. Story. Payoffs. Setups. Moments. Surprises." adding "And then, once in a while I'm 'Please guys-show me another take where I don't look like I'm taking a shit and screaming at the same time.'" Thanks Robert, for that visual that I will now surely have watching Iron Man 3! So if RDJ does retire from Tony Stark, what else is next for the actor? Well, next summer he will co-star in a drama called The Judge which he's producing with his wife. And he's also pitching a version of Pinocchio to Warner Bros. So, there will be plenty of Robert Downey Jr. to see, even if it's not in Iron Man. Sad Face. So, do you think Robert Downey Jr. will actually leave the franchise?
