Unless you’re a millionaire, the planes you’ve flown on before are probably pretty small. Cramped spaces, no legroom and noisy neighbours can mean your trip to a tropical destination can be made more than unpleasant. But that’s just how it is for passengers. The answer: bigger planes.

When you’re trying to squeeze 230 people onto a plane that seems to only comfortably fit half of that, the idea that some planes are so big they can transport houses and more seems impossible. But a lot of these planes don’t look like your average holiday aircraft. Take the Airbus A300-600ST Beluga, for example. Shaped almost like the whale, it’s strange to think it can even lift off of the ground. On our list we also have the An-225 Mriya, which is the world’s largest plane, and the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, which is the United States’ biggest military aircraft.

And that’s considered cheap. Some of these planes are bought cheaply because the companies buy them in bulk. Then you have others like the KC-747 – which is the only one of its type in the world.
