So I've been reviewing R/C aircraft for nearly 10 years and this is the first time I've ever had a chance to fly an aircraft while wearing FPV goggles, and I have to say it wasn't as hard as I thought. In fact I really enjoyed the experience. The Eachine Assassin 180 is one of the most affordable brush-less RTF FPV systems on the market.
You can pick one up from www.banggood.com for only $339 and really get started racing. The included transmitter and receiver get great range and the video stream is reliable and looks good through goggles. The flight time is a little short at 7 or 8 minutes from a 100 minute charge and I'm not a fan of the proprietary batteries and charger, it's not a bad system just not the best for racing.
The camera looks great considering how small it is and the lights are amazingly bright and really help illuminate the scene, the camera even has night vision capabilities so you can fly in the dark, it's a lot of fun at night.
You have to remove the rotors and antennas to stow the aircraft in the protective case, but it's a quick and easy process, you don't even need a tool to remove the rotors. It can be assembled in just a couple of minutes. The longest part is waiting for a GPS signal which can take up to five minutes, but once it locates enough satellites to lock in it's position it can tell you how fast it's going and how far away it is. There is also a built in barometer to tell you what your altitude is, although mine wasn't very accurate. All this information is displayed in the goggles along with your voltage, temperature, heading, altitude, and speed. The goggles themselves are very comfortable and easy to use, you can adjust the contrast and brightness, plus you can easily search the video spectrum for your video stream at the push of a button. The goggles are power by really cool little batteries that look like 9 volt batteries. They are in fact rechargeable 7.4 volt batteries but they can work in a 9 volt slot and you can recharge them with a standard USB cable, they even have built in voltage meters.
The aircraft is very fast and pretty nimble, it can fly much faster then I fly it in this video, it was my first flight so I wanted to take it easy. The aircraft has beginner and advanced flight modes and you can easily access the programming port to reprogram it to do more.
