Getting the list of truly great mobile games from the past year down to just five was considerably harder than we expected. We argued and argued and argued: over email and IM, on the phone, and in person. There are still some grumpy faces around here thanks to disagreements about a number of games that didn't make the final list--such is the passion that this past year's releases elicit. What we have here, though, is wonderfully representative of the diversity and imagination that we're seeing on both iOS and Android right now: action games that leverage the touch interface beautifully, adventures that blend distinctive artwork and wonderful music, and a diverse mix of games that blend wit, creativity, and whimsy in ways that are sometimes missing from games on other platforms.
