Shadow of Mordor sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War is shaping up to be special, even if you know next to nothing about Lord of the Rings. Discover the new things you can do in the Shadow of War gameplay above, and subscribe for more on Outside Xbox:
The distinctive Nemesis system, for starters, was an idea so brilliant we're amazed it hasn't been ripped off yet, and it has been expanded hugely for Shadow of War.
The aim in Shadow of War is to create large scale battles, like Helm's Deep from the Lord of the Rings movies, but that have a unique, procedurally generated storyline based on the complex relationships between members of yours and the opposing armies.
Even just the example of a fortress assault in the gameplay footage above has little sub-plots running through it. We can't wait to see how that pans out over the 15-20 hours of play in Shadow of War.
Middle-earth Shadow of War comes out on release date August 22nd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
