Marvel's Ant-Man Loses Director

Prepare to be shocked! One of next summer's most anticipated films has lost its director! That's right, Marvel announced today that Edgar Wright has exited Ant-Man due to what they are calling, "differences in their vision of the film". This is a huge surprise considering how long Wright has been working on the project. Just to put it in perspective, Wright started working on Ant-Man back in 2006 years before the first Iron Man movie even came out. He has been talking about it ever since and Marvel co-president Kevin Feige has often stated that the reason the movie was even getting made in the first place was because of Wright's vision for the film. So what does this mean for the film? Marvel gives their assurance that they will still make their July 17th, 2015 release date and have apparently already hired a new director to take over though they have yet to announce who that is. Some are speculating that it could be Attack the Block director Joe Cornish who worked with Wright on the Ant-Man screenplay, but nothing has been announced or confirmed. Ant-Man is set to launch Marvel's Phase 3 and will be the first film released after Avengers: Age of Ultron. The studio is hoping for it to become a new franchise with the title character expected to join The Avengers team in the third film. Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas are attached to star as different versions of Ant-Man. No word yet if Wright's exit will force production to push their start date, but it's definitely expected under the circumstances. But with such an effects heavy movie, they have a short window to keep their promise to make that release date next summer. Wright's exit comes a day after Disney announced Godzilla would be helming their planned Star Wars spinoff movie. For details on that, be sure to click right here. I'm sure many of you out there are as shocked as we are by this news, but who do you think should take over directing duties on Ant-Man and do you think they will really be able to make that July 17th release date? Head down to the comments and tell us what you think and be sure to subscribe for the latest Ant-Man news as it breaks. I'm Erin White, thanks for watching!
