Watch out ladies, there’s another team ready to mount their proton packs and bust some ghosts. As you probably know by now, an all-female Ghostbusters movie is set to arrive in theaters on July 22nd, 2016 that will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as a new group of ghost hunters that will have zero connection to the previous films. Today brings word that it won’t be the only team of Ghostbusters on the horizon. Original Ghostbusters co-writer and star Dan Aykroyd and director Ivan Reitman are teaming up to create Ghostcorps, a new production company set up at Sony Pictures that will work on developing a Ghostbusters universe that will develop new properties in film, television and other arenas. Their first task will be developing a male-oriented Ghostbusters that will potentially star Channing Tatum, be written by Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible 5 writer Drew Pearce and be directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Of course, the Russo’s involvement will depend on when the film is ready to go into production as they are currently preparing to shoot next summer’s Captain America: Civil War and are being rumored to be in the running to helm the two part Avengers: Infinity War set for 2018 and 2019. Reitman told Deadline that the hope is to have the film ready to shoot next summer after they wrap Captain America 3 for a 2017 release. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a Ghostbusters Universe. Back in September, Aykroyd compared the franchise to Avengers and Star Wars with Reitman recently saying that they had plan on building a large universe early on, but thanks to the deals made after the second movie, nothing got done. Now they’ve finally found a way to make it work telling Deadline quote, “My primary focus will be to build the Ghostbusters into the universe it always promised it might become. The original film is beloved, as is the cast, and we hope to create films we will continue to love.” It’s unclear if this “male-oriented” Ghostbusters will connect to next year’s all-female one, but Reitman did say the second film has a wonderful idea that builds on next summer’s one. So, who’s excited for a Channing Tatum lead Ghostbusters movie and which actors would you like see join his team?
