Microwave energy can heat liquid water to sufficiently high temperatures that it turns into water vapor and effectively "disappears".
So was this very interesting hole in the clouds caused by a microwave oven with the door removed and the safety switch disabled?
Of course not -- so what is this interesting meteorological phenomenon and what really causes it?
