One of the biggest questions regarding the upcoming Spider-Man reboot has been confirmed and we’ve got even more info on what’s in store for the webcrawler as he prepares to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Ever since it was announced that Marvel and Sony would be joining forces to relaunch a new Spider-Man franchise that would be connected to the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, the biggest question has been would he be the original Peter Parker or the new Spidey on the block, Miles Morales. Considering we’ve already seen two versions of Peter Parker on the big screen in the past 13 years, many fans were hoping the studio would introduce Morales as a way of distinguishing the character from the previous iterations as well as bring in some much needed diversity into the MCU since Morales in the comics is of African American and Hispanic descent. Well, despite the initial announcement declaring it would be “Peter Parker” many fans were still holding out hope, but while promoting the upcoming Avengers sequel, Marvel president Kevin Feige confirmed that the new Spider-Man will in fact be a teenage Peter Parker telling Collider that he will be a high school student around 15-16, though that may not necessarily be the age of the actor they eventually cast. Feige went on to explain that the two previous iterations only briefly covered his high school years and some of his favorite stories from the comics have been when he was in high school so they want to explore that further, especially since having a high school student interacting with much older heroes in the MCU will be unique and interesting to explore. For those of you concerned that this means we will have to watch yet another Peter Parker origin story, Feige told CraveOnline this will not be the case saying that they plan on taking it for granted that people already know the specifics of his origin and they want to instead focus on this young high school kid in the MCU who is dealing with his powers. He went on to further explain Spider-Man’s place in the MCU saying quote, “There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU, you just don’t know it yet.” As for the costume, Feige says they have already designed the costume and it will be very different from the versions we’ve seen on-screen before, but will be “classic Spidey”. Feige also confirmed that they have been planning to have Spider-Man join the MCU for quite some time and he was always set to be a big part of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but couldn’t confirm it during the big announcement last October, because the deal wasn’t 100% official. Of course, we won’t have to wait too long for our first look at the new Spider-Man in action as he is expected to make his first appearance in next summer’s Captain America: Civil War followed by his own film on July 28th, 2017. So who out there is excited that the new Spider-Man will be Peter Parker and are you glad they plan to focus more on his high school years than the previous films?
