'Metal Gear Solid' Creator Talks "Snake" Casting

Hideo Kojima reveals casting hopes for the Metal Gear movie. Although the mastermind behind the colosally succesful stealth games originally wanted to pursue a career in filmmaking, Hideo Kojima says he's perfectly fine letting someone else write and direct the upcoming Metal Gear Solid adaptation. But as executive producer of the project, Kojima will still have a huge hand in Solid Snake's transition to the silver screen...specifically the casting process for the film's leading man.
Kojima had hoped a well known action star like Hugh Jackman would step into the special ops shoes of Snake...Jackman is also a favorite pick among the franchise's rabid fans. But after more thought, both Kojima and producer Avi Arad agree an unknown...rising star would be better suited for the role...someone who isn't already associated with a particular character. But Kojima defaults to Avi Arad for the actual proccess of tracking down that diamond in the rough... saying "Avi is very good at finding these people, and I think we can find someone who can make it big and have Solid Snake be their break into the movie industry."
Rumors of a metal gear solid movie first surfaced in 2007...and around 2010 it almost looked like it wasn't going to happen at all. But most recently, Kojima announced he and Arad plan to resurrect the adaptation with Columbia pictures tapped to finance and distribute. It's still very early in the development process so not much is for sure at this point...like an official release date, writer or director. But while Kojima won't pen the script himself, he did say he plans to work alongside Arad and the writer of their choosing...to ensure the film honors the franchise's roots.
