Deus Ex Mankind Divided doesn't pick up where one of the Deus Ex Human Revolution endings left off. Instead, Mankind Divided uses an earlier event in the game as its jumping-off point.
The so-called “aug incident” in which augmented people were sent violently crazy by their upgraded biochips is the catalyst for the story of Mankind Divided; it also explains why augmented people are feared and segregated into the augmented ghettos seen in the Deus Ex Mankind Divided trailers so far.
