Update April 2017. My battery died but I got one delivered for less than $3 from here
On the Yi 4K action camera review I did I mentioned a camera to consider instead of the Yi which is this camera.
Gearbest sent me a mail asking if I would like to do a review on the Runcam 2 and I said I was not interested and I was more interested in the Firefly. I just was not impressed with the video quality from the Runcam. It did not handle different light conditions very well and the colours seemed to be a bit washed out for my liking.
So they said they would send me a Firefly Q6.
Happy days!!
The camera is very light and my quad will need a slight bit of tweaking as I have it tuned for the heavier Yi camera.
I think it handles different light conditions very well indeed and it shoots in Mp4 H264 at 3740 KPS in 1080p 60fps mode.
A 7 minute video in this mode is about 1.9 gigs on its high bit rate setting. I used a 32gb sd card class 10 in the video.
It has a 12 mp Sony ComS sensor and you should get over 1 hour from a charge. Instructions states 1.5 hours. Charging is done by the usual USB port and a cable is provided. Although I do wish they would stick to the usual mini USB port that most use these days. The Taranis radio is the same.
It is also compatible to all common M12 lens should you want to swap it.
It can shoot video at
4k @24fps
2.5k @30fps
19220*1440 @30fps
1080p @60 + 30fps ( the video here was shot at 1080p 60 FPS )
720p @120fps
VGA @30fps
Capture options
Photo 5- 12 MP
Video
Time-Lapse video
Time-Lapse photo ( .5 to 10 seconds intervals )
11 photo a second burst
I did read on forums that this camera only shoots in 30FPS and adds frames to make it 60fps so its fake 60fps. I went frame by frame in various parts of this video and confirm this is NOT TRUE. I use Sony Vegas Pro 13.
I would have liked to see a video AND photo capture option like on the Yi camera. You can set that camera to take a photo every say 5 seconds but that camera does cost 3 times as much.
The Runcam 2 I mentioned does come with Wifi and a detachable battery which did not interest me but it may be something you should consider. Also that cam cost about $40 more.
So bottom line for fast flights I am going to be using this camera from now on as it is so light and has a very low profile. It may also be easier to find in long grass with the flashing leds when it is recording and the bright yellow casing stands out!
The Yi 4k action camera I will use more for scenic shots as the video is slightly better and it can capture pictures at the same time. It can also record 1080p @ 120fps
This camera was provided free of charge for review from Gearbest. Thanks guys!!!
