In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew tests the new FLIR Vue Pro thermal imaging camera, developed specifically for use on Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SUAS), popularly known as drones. The Vue Pro incorporates on-board recording capability to an included micro-SD card, as well as real-time control of the camera from your RC radio. The crew begins by unboxing the Vue Pro and then connects it to an Android tablet via Bluetooth using the new FLIR Vue Pro app. With the app, which is available for free, users are able to configure their cameras to use different color palettes and video options. The Vue Pro also includes PWM inputs for easy integration with the drone's control receiver, allowing basic camera functions, such as capturing still images and video, as well as the color palette, to be controlled in real time. It also provides for future MAVLink integration. Next, the crew discusses options that are available with the camera, including: resolution, lens focal length and frame rate. The episode concludes with a flight demonstration using RQCX-3 “Raven.”
