Video game movies are the latest trend in Hollywood as studios are determined to turn at least one into a viable franchise that's actually good, but what's the status of the one that started it all? Granted, it wasn't based on an actual video game, but Disney was ahead of their time when they introduced fans to the world of Tron way back in 1982. Like most things ahead of their time, the film failed to find an audience when it was first released managing a mere $30 million at the US box office. But thanks to home video, Tron became a cult classic and a sequel was finally released in 2010 with Tron: Legacy. Though it was not a massive hit, the film did bring in an impressive $397 million worldwide...enough for Disney to announce a third film was in the works. So what's the status of Tron 3? We recently caught up with director Joseph Kosinski at WonderCon to talk about his new film Oblivion and we had to ask him just that. We shall see indeed. So far we know that Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde will be returning along with Bruce Boxleitner back as Tron himself. No word yet on when we can expect to see Tron 3 hit theaters, but who's excited for a third film and where would you like to see the story go? Share your thoughts below or tweet us @ClevverMovies. Until next time, I'm Erin Darling, thanks for watching!
