STAR WARS EPISODE VII Finds Its Villain►
JJ Abrams casts Chewbacca! And has filming already started on Episode VII?
Lots of Star Wars news today, finally!
First up, THR is reporting that actor, Peter Mayhew will be returning to re-prise everyone's favorite wookiee, Chewbacca in Star Wars Episode VII. Mayhew recently had to cancel his appearance at Comicpalooza coming up in May due to filming, and with Epsiode VII's production schedule likely revving up in May, lots of folks predicted that this casting was defnitely happening.
However, we are learning some interesting news about that Star Wars shooting schedule that kinda surprised us. Disney Studios Chairman, Alan Horn, told an audience at Loyola Marymount School of Film and Television that they've already started filming!
Horn said that up until now casting has proved to be one of the most challenging parts of putting this movie together, and that they are still looking at actors as we speak. In regards to the new Star Wars cast, Horn said quote "We have a lot of them. We're just not completely done yet." He then followed that up with "we're actually shooting some of it now." Sounds like they may be feeling the pressure of that fast approaching December 2015 release date and they want to get a jump start on production as soon as possible. However, it is also very possible that the crew is currently shooting without a cast, being that they will likely have to grab a ton of B-roll and location shots.
Horn also kinda admitted that all of those rumors we heard about JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan scrambling to get the script done were true, but never fear because he did say that the script is actually where it needs to be now. Which is always nice to hear.
Now there were rumors circling last week that Abrams and crew would be headed to Morocco to shoot during their first two weeks of production, and if Horn's statement is true, this might have happened already! Die hard Star Wars fans may know that Morocco's desert landscape was one of the backdrops for Tatooine in A New Hope, which may mean that Skywalker's home planet will play some role in Episode VII.
We expect to hear more about casting very soon and we will update you all as soon as we hear something good, but until then go ahead and click right here to get the details on who will be playing the new villain in Star Wars Episode VII.
So, what do you think about Mayhew returning to Episode VII? Let's hear it, right now, in the comments, and also let's chat about it over on Twitter and Facebook too at ClevverMovies. Form Hollywood, Im Erin Robinson, and Ill catch ya later!
