Dwayne Johnson Talks Black Adam & DC Universe Connection

After he gets furious in the next Fast and Furious film and single handedly fights an Earthquake in this summer’s San Andreas, Dawyne “The Rock” Johnson will be bringing the DC supervillain “Black Adam” to the big screen and today he’s sharing some info on how the character will be portrayed and how he’ll fit into the larger DC Universe. After teasing the role for months, last year it was revealed that Dwayne Johnson will be playing “Black Adam” in DC’s Shazam!, currently set to arrive in theaters on April 5th, 2019. In a new Total Film Magazine cover story, Johnson revealed that, though the character will be the main protagonist of the film, he will eventually grow into becoming an anti-hero, which he says is how the character is portrayed in the comics explaining quote, “As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilized them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology.” When the Shazam movie was first announced, many fans questioned whether it would be its own entity or fit within the larger universe that DC is hoping to create, beginning with next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. According to Johnson, the worlds will be interconnected and one day we will see Black Adam going head-to-head against Superman, Batman or any of the DC characters. He points out though Black Adam has the ability to be independent from the rest of the DC world which will allow them to bring viciousness as well as humor to the character.
